About the Company
The origins of Hustler mowers can be traced back to 1949, when the first self-propelled rotary lawn mower was invented. These mowers featured a drive wheel capable of turning a full 360 degrees, which eventually came to inspire the development of zero-turn technology.
But it wasn’t until 1963 that John Regier came up with the idea to incorporate a belt and pulley system to generate counter-rotation. The result was a mower that could circle a flagpole with a turning radius of zero. Regier sold his patented design to the Hesston Corporation, the farm equipment manufacturer where he worked as an engineer.
Riding on the success of these mowers, the Hesston Corporation grew to become Excel Industries, the parent company of Hustler. Hustler now boasts more than 1,600 dealers nationwide and over 30 distributors across the globe.
